Ambitious plan to light up rural homes
13 May 2008In developing countries, electrification of rural homes is still a major challenge and in India a few companies are coming up with ambitious plan to light up rural homes with the help of nanotechnology. Ekta Telecommunication and system, a Jamshedpur based firm have a plan to incorporate nanotechnology in the development of solar modules so that cheap power can be provided in rural areas at an affordable rate.
The technology will not only help in reducing the input price of the solar energy but it will also increase the efficiency. This technology will use thin polymer sheets and by placing these thin polymer sheets on rooftop, electricity will be generated which can be used for various applications.
The energy crisis can be avoided by promoting renewable sources of energy and solar electricity is one of the solutions of it. Solar energy can be produced at much lower rates than the commercial power generated from renewable sources of energy and therefore it seems to be the best choice for rural India.
