Fullerene nanostrustures and nanostructured films

Utilization of fullerene materials for developing next generation nanodevices is of particular interest in chemical nanotechnology. The dyads and triads molecular systems of fullerene have a great potential and it has renewed interest for building photovoltaic systems and mimicking photosynthesis. It has already been established that fullerenes and its derivatives easily form self assembled molecular clusters in presence of mixed solvents and these clusters are optically transparent as well as these are also thermodynamically stable.

A number of studies has already been conducted and these studies have shown encouraging photochemical and photochemical properties. Further the size and shape of fullerene based molecular clusters can be altered with suitable structural modifications and these structures can also be assembled as 3-diamensional arrays on conducting glass electrodes. These fullerene molecular structures show exceptional light energy conversion and electrochemical sensing.

Fullerene is strongly hydrophobic in nature and it forms clusters so that it can minimize the surface affect to the surrounding polar mixed solvents. The fullerene cluster shows a broad featureless spectrum and is highly photoactive and shows multiple excited state properties. Fullerene nanostructures can be used for a variety of application and its ability to absorb light has opened new ways to find its usage in optoelectronic devices such as sensors and photonic systems.
