Western Economic Diversification Canada provide fund for Nano-fabrication
19 May 2008A sum of US $750,000 has been provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada for building a fabrication facility for nanotechnology and for purchase of latest advanced equipment required for DNA sequencing. The fund will jointly utilized by genome British Columbia, Michael Smith Science Centre and The Networks of Centres of Excellence of UBC.
The BC Cancer Agency’s Michael Smith Genome Science Centre and Genome British Columbia will invest fund for purchasing and installing new generation genomic research equipments. The additional facilities will bring down the cost of analysis as well as these additional facilities will also increase the speed and accuracy of analysis.
The Networks of Centres of Excellence at UBC will utilize their fund or building Nano-fabrication facilities at the center. A new clean room alongwith new equipment required for prototyping and manufacturing biochips will be built. The ultimate benefits of the research in both the areas will be passed on the users in health and industry.
