Nanotechnology revolution in new areas

14 May 2007

Zhong Lin Wang, a professor in the school of material science and engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology has developed a tiny generator. This nanodevice is one of its kinds that will harvest mechanical energy from its surrounding. Professor Zhong Lin Wang is a renowned scientist and has already invented several nanodevices.

Actually this device uses nanowires that can flex and due to zinc oxide nanostructures, this tiny generator has advantage of piezoelectric and semiconducting properties. The small electric charge is therefore produced and flexed. Using the large number of nanowires, the required current can be produced.

According to professor Zhong, supplying power to these tiny nanodevices is one of the difficult tasks and Professor Zhong has been able to find out solution for the problem. These nanodevices are able to harvest or recycle the energy from the surrounding sources and therefore can bring the revolutionary changes in the new areas of nanotechnology.
