Nanotechnology Delivers Long-lasting, Enhanced Marine Teak Wood Coating

17 April 2007

A company called Nanovations has successfully leveraged Nanotechnology to create a new wood coating for marine teak wood. The product, called Teak Guard Marine, uses a water-based solution instead of an oil-based solution, and uses Nanoparticles to deliver long-lasting, durable protection for the wood, easily outperforming current wood coatings that do not use Nanotechnology. The product is the result of 4 years of research and claims to protect against intense rays of solar radiation anywhere in the world. The coating contains unique properties not available in competing products.

The problem with most wood coatings is that infusing them with UV absorption properties causes the applied wood finish to become glossy and transparent, eliminating the natural look of the teak and causing it to become gray over time. The Nanoparticles in the Teak Guard Marine product do just the opposite, allowing teak to maintain its natural appearance without any deterioration of the wood.

The Nanoparticles allow the coating in the Teak Guard Marine product to deeply penetrate the wood grain, boosting the natural properties of the teak wood. The result is a stronger wood finish that can greatly withstand water and solar radiation, while maintaining its attractive appearance. After penetrating the wood the Nanoparticles in Teak Guard Marine create pores that allow water vapour to be expelled. This in turn protects the wood against cracking. The penetration of the Nanoparticles also adds an extra layer of protection from mildew and microorganisms, and is free from environmentally toxic chemicals. The coating protects against stains and food spills as well.

Nanoparticles also add an extra layer of protection from mildew and microorganisms, and the coating is free from environmentally toxic chemicals. It also protects against stains and food spills. The UV protection in Teak Guard Marine is the most advanced of its kind on the market. In all, these factors make it convenient and cost effective over the long run. Nanotechnology makes it possible.
